A visit to Kenya will not be complete without sampling its various tourist attractions!
While in Kenya for the WSF, please take some time off to have fun. Some attractions that you may able to sample include: In Nairobi Nairobi, the city that will host the WSF 2007 is the springboard to Eastern, Central and Southern and is well connected to all other parts of Kenya. You will be able to loose yourself to the myriad of cultures found within this cosmopolitan city. It has wide open streets that you can walk freely. Some of the attractions will include:- Accommodation: there are accommodation options to suit every budget. However, it is advice able to book early because of the high number of people expected at the WSF. Camping within and outside town is also possible. Language: English and Kiswahili are the most widely spoken languages in the city. While most Kenyans speak English, it would always be advantageous to learn a few Kiswahili words. One can get a few Kiswahili words through booklets widely available in all bookshops in the city. Currency: Kenyan currency is called the Shilling abbreviated Kshs. The exchange rate is currently 1 USD for 70 Kshs. Most foreign currency can be changed at the numerous bureaus strewn all over town. Must visit Places include: The Nairobi National Park: - Nairobi boasts of being the only city in the world with a Game Park within its boundaries. Located just 15 minutes from the city centre, the park spans over 117 sq Km and offers over 50 varieties of wild game including Lions, Buffaloes, Rhino and giraffe among many others. The Nairobi safari walk: - Located just outside the national park, the animal orphanage was established in 1964 as a sanctuary for wild animals found abandoned, injured or orphaned throughout Kenya. It offers a breathtaking animal safari walk. The National Museum of Kenya: - Just five minutes away from the city centre, the museum is an extensive ornithological collection, geology and prehistoric gallery that exhibits the history of earth and mankind. The adjacent snake park is a living exhibit of all indigenous species of reptiles in Kenya. There are ostrich farms, giraffe centres, an elephant orphanage and many kinds of sporting activities to fully occupy you! Outside Nairobi You may choose to visit Nanyuki to wallow in the beauty of snow capped peaks of Mt. Kenya, the second tallest mountain in Africa and if you have the time, a mountain climbing expedition can be arranged. Alternatively, you may choose to spend time with the Yiaku community in the Mukogodo forest where on top of the traditional dances and spending a night in traditional Yiaku hut, a trekking expedition across the forest can be arranged. Nakuru will also be definitely a plus! The 2 hour drive from Nairobi across the Great Rift Valley will take you to Lake Nakuru the home to millions of flamingos while the scenic beauty of Lake Nakuru National Park hosts a variety of wildlife including hippos, rhinos, buffaloes and many, many more. A trip to Menengai crater will also be a breathtaking experience. A visit to the local Ogiek community against the background of the Mau forest will be a once in a life time experience.
